A political advertising veteran says the Green Party's contentious video ad poking fun at National Party leader Simon Bridges followed a classic formula.

The Green Party deny they were making fun of his accent and say they were accurately depicting it.

John Ansell who's created controversial ad campaigns for National and ACT told RNZ political reporter Jo Moir the Greens would have deliberately set this video up to make the news - and it's worked.
