The government's radical overhaul of apprenticeships and workplace training has spelt the end for industry training organisations (ITOs).
It's replacing the ITOs with workforce councils that will have the power to veto courses that don't meet industry requirements, but they will no longer organise on-the-job training.
That role is going to the new mega-polytechnic the government is creating next year.
Josh Williams from the Industry Training Federation told RNZ education correspondent, John Gerritsen, industry training organisations are disappointed, but not surprised, by the government's decision.
