How did Nelson get gold-standard drinking water?

From Morning Report, 8:28 am on 2 August 2019

Radical changes to drinking water standards were announced this week, aimed at prompting councils to lift their game.

The Government made similar revisions 15 years ago for the same reasons – yet in 2016 four people died and 5000 people fell ill after Havelock North's water supply was contaminated with campylobacter.

Questions are being raised about why some councils have spent millions upgrading their drinking water, and some haven't.

RNZ's Nelson reporter Tracy Neal takes a closer look.
