The police are hunting for a fleeing driver who ran over and killed a pedestrian in Christchurch on Wednesday afternoon.
The police say a chase began shortly before two o'clock, when a vehicle of interest failed to stop in New Brighton.
As they were arresting two people from the vehicle they say a third person, who they named as 21 one year-old Liam Strickland, took off in a stolen van and rammed a police dog van before hitting the pedestrian.
