Law change bringing 17-year-olds into Youth Court not working
Lawyers and justice advocates say a law change six weeks ago to bring 17-year-olds into the Youth Court is not working they way they had hoped. They say that's because Parliament created a schedule of offences that must be heard in adult courts. That's created unnecessary confusion that's not only bad for defendants and witnesses, but could waste court time and resources. Hamish Cardwell reports.
