There have been more than 130 incidents of self-harm in Youth Justice Residences since 2014.
Oranga Tamariki spokesperson Ben Hannifin says it shows how traumatised and vulnerable young offenders are, but told RNZ's youth affairs reporter Katie Doyle he's encouraged to see the numbers are tracking down.
