A government inquiry into the 2017 Auckland fuel pipeline leak says the big oil companies must act urgently to ensure the city can never again be cut off. The pipeline brings petrol, diesel and jet fuel from the Marsden Point oil refinery in Northland to Auckland. It ruptured in 2017, causing ten days of shortages. The inquiry says Z Energy, BP and Mobil, which indirectly own the pipeline, need to build new storage tanks in Auckland as a backup -- and if they don't, the Government should force them to. Elana Trout is the chair of the inquiry.
