Lobbying for mandatory hearing screening in secondary schools
The Government is being lobbied for mandatory hearing screening in secondary schools. The National Foundation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing is blaming phones and ear-buds for high rates of hearing problems among teenagers. It says screening of nearly 500 year nine students found a third suffered from ringing in their ears. Natasha Gallardo is the foundation's chief executive, she told Susie Ferguson that the World Health Organisation recommends children should listen to their devices at no more than 75 decibles for no longer than 40 hours a week.
