Drivers are being warned to check for trains since the Wairoa-to-Napier has been reopened for the first time since significant storm damage saw the route mothballed in 2012.
The line has been restored with a $6.2 million boost from the Provincial Growth Fund.
That should mean more business for the towns, less logging truck on the road, but it also mean drivers have to re-learn to look for trains at level crossings Craig Little is the Mayor of Wairoa.
