Coronavirus: Traveller says NZ border controls lax

From Morning Report, 8:47 am on 8 April 2020

The Prime Minister is promising stricter border controls after an epidemiologist warned that without urgent tightening of them, lockdown should not be lifted.

Jacinda Ardern says there is no evidence of broad flouting of self isolation but she still wants tougher follow up.

But a traveller who spoke to RNZ on condition of anonymity, says controls were incredibly weak when they came in to Auckland airport three days after the lockdown began.

Twice blocked from domestic flights, they were shuttled by bus between the airport and a downtown hotel four times.

He told reporter Phil Pennington that at one point, Ministry of Health representatives met them at the hotel.
