Two universities are asking staff to take pay cuts as they wrestle with multi-million-dollar deficits caused by the Covid-19 outbreak and lockdown.
Victoria University is considering a 20 percent pay cut, while Lincoln University has asked staff to volunteer for a 5 percent drop.
The Tertiary Education Union says all eight universities are in trouble and staff should not be asked to bail them out.
