Despite a spike in the number of jobseekers, Whanganui is confident domestic tourism will help it ride out the worst of the economic downturn caused by Covid-19.
At the end of last month there were one thousand 889 jobseekers registered in the district, up from one thousand 511 just before the lockdown.
That's an increase of 25 percent - nationally the increase for work-ready jobseekers was about 40 percent for the same period.
