The Green Party is pledging to transform a welfare system it calls outdated, unfair and unliveable by introducing a guaranteed minimum income.
It would ensure a payment of at least $325 a week for anyone not in full time work, financed by taxing the wealthy more.
The policy aims to "ensure everyone has enough to put food on the table and a roof over their head" and includes financial support for students and people with children or disabilities.
