New Zealand Rugby is loathe to ban transgender athletes from the women's game despite World Rugby investigating a move to do so.
World Rugby is carrying out a review of its transgender guidelines because of safety concerns.
They say latest research shows a reduction of testosterone does not lead to a proportionate reduction in mass, muscle mass, strength or power meaning transgender players have an advantage when playing in the women's game.
If a ban was implemented it would the first international sports federation to prohibit transgender women from competing.
New Zealand Rugby's chief operating officer Nicki Nicol says it will now get feedback locally about the proposed policy but told sports editor Stephen Hewson she doesn't believe a ban would be appropriate.
