New Zealand Rugby is loathe to ban transgender athletes from the women's game despite World Rugby investigating a move to do so.
The international governing body says a review is necessary because of safety concerns, citing research that suggests that trans players have an advantage when playing the women's game.
For its part, New Zealand Rugby says it will now get feedback locally about the proposed policy but isn't keen on a ban.
Its chief operating officer Nicki Nicol says the organization's goal is to keep trans athletes included in the sport.
