Were it not for the pandemic, the luminaries of the science fiction world would have been jetting in to Wellington for the World Science Fiction Convention, which kicks off today - albeit online.
The event, more casually known as Worldcon, has been held each year since 1939 - except for during World War II.
This is the first time New Zealand has hosted the event.
Norman Cates is co-chair of this year's Worldcon.
