This morning 5 million Melbourne residents are starting the first day of a strict six-week lockdown and the declaration of a "state of disaster" in Victoria.
That's in addition to the three weeks of lockdown the city has already been subject to.
The new rules will see some businesses and schools close, fines issued for people who stray too far from home, and an evening curfew put into effect.
It seems that Victoria is going hard - if not that early.
But will it be hard enough?
Epidemiologist Professor Tony Blakely is in lockdown in Melbourne.
