Ngāti Rangi are asking visitors to stay away from the Ruapehu area following reports that a Covid positive case from the Auckland visited Tūroa Ski Area on 9 August.
They want local community leaders and the council to support a regional lockdown to protect whānau and the wider community.
Whetu Moataane is the chairman of Ngāti Rangi.
