Donald Trump hits the ground in Kenosha

From Morning Report, 7:09 am on 2 September 2020

The President has visited the Wisconsin city of Kenosha after days of protests following the shooting of an unarmed African American man by a police officer.

The White House says the visit would be 'unifying', but local officials, including Wisconsin's governor and the city's mayor, asked the President to stay away to allow the city time to "heal".

Trump ignored their pleas as he pushed a strong "law and order" message ahead of November's election.

Days of protests and unrest had broken out in the city after Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back.
