Fire crews have been working through the night to extinguish the Lake Ōhau fire in the Mackenzie Basin.
Up to half of the properties in Lake Ōhau Village were damaged or destroyed by the fire that started Sunday.
RNZ reporter Anan Zaki was taken on a trip to see the damage.
Coming back on the bus he spoke with Fire and Emergency controller Graeme Still who said showing damage to locals was emotional.
