Wellington Gorge reduced to single lane for repairs

From Morning Report, 8:48 am on 12 October 2020

Work begins today on shoring up Wellington's Ngaio Gorge, reducing the arterial road to a single lane.

It will take two years and $11 million to remediate and reinforce the area affected by landslides in 2017.

While that might prove to be a headache for Wellington commuters - it's also an inconvenience for native lizards living on the construction site, who will first have to be captured and moved to a new home.

Jenny Condie, the Wellington City Council's Transport Infrastructure portfolio leader, speaks to Corin Dann.
