The CEO of Consumer New Zealand says supermarkets have failed New Zealanders by overcharging at the till.
Jon Duffy believes the charging of Mangare Pak n Save for misleading customers about price is a warning shot for the industry that is in need of an overhaul to ensure systems are properly serving customers.
He believes pricing errors of this kind occur regularly. The charges were brought by the Commerce Commission after a mystery shopper noticed errors on their reciept.
Despite the Commerce Commission raising the issue with the supermarket at the time, prices were not rectified and customers continued to be overcharged.
