They showed up expecting $100,000 falling from the sky - and they got fake money "vouchers" instead.
The PR stunt by The Safety Warehouse on Saturday left people fuming about the company's apparent lack of ethics.
Safety Warehouse managing director Andrew Thorn says in a statement they stand by their marketing, and the vouchers issued at the event.
Levin resident John Murphy spent $200 on travel and accommodation and 10 hours on a bus to get to the event.
He's started a petition demanding the company to reimburse the participants with real cash.
