RNZ understands there has been a breakthrough in negotiations over Ihumātao, with an initial deal expected to go to Cabinet today.
More than a year ago an eviction notice was served on protesters objecting to Fletcher Building's plans to build 480 houses on the South Auckland site.
That notice ramped up protests and there were extensive efforts to find a resolution, but those negotiations ran into opposition from New Zealand First.
Post election that resistance is out of the picture.
