Today's forecast of sunshine and wind for Christchurch has residents and firefighters staying watchful following the mop up of a large fire in the Port Hills overnight.
The latest blaze burned through 18 hectares of tussock and scrub and came within metres of a handful of homes in Clifton.
About 30 firefighters stayed overnight to dampen hot spots and assessments of damage are taking place this morning.
