People travelling between Napier and Taupo today are having to endure significant four to five hour detours.
Trees have fallen on State Highway 5 with the only detour through Palmertson North or Gisborne.
It's a delay most will want to avoid, if possible. It's not the only route blocked by fallen trees - State Highway 47 between Tokaanu and Tongariro is also closed.
