Christchurch residents who use lots of water may have to pay for the extra they use.
The city council wants to charge households using more than 700 litres of water a day, well above the daily average of 540 litres.
Residents with pools, and large gardens would have to pay up.
The proposal is part of the city council's draft long-term plan, released today.
Christchurch deputy mayor and councillor Andrew Turner spoke to Susie Ferguson.
