New Zealand won't be throwing open its doors to the large numbers of new migrants seen in recent years, once it's ready to open the border.
Covid-19 has brought net migration to a screeching halt, although tens of thousands of New Zealanders have returned, or become stuck here, because of the pandemic.
The population had been been increasing through migration by up to 50,000 or 60,000 people a year, but there's a strong signal numbers will now be much more tightly controlled.
