One hundred Wellington bus drivers who are striking today face an indefinite lock-out from tomorrow when the strike ends.
The Tramways Union and the drivers' employer, NZ Bus, have been in negotiations for weeks over a new collective agreement.
On Thursday the union gave notice of a 24-hour strike from 4am on Friday, after which employers announced the lockout.
That is in spite of scheduled mediation.
National President of the Council of Trade Unions Richard Wagstaff spoke to Corin Dann.
NZ Bus declined to be interviewed, saying through a spokesman that it wants to do its talking in mediation.
