A French court has ruled that thousands of victims of defective breast implants are entitled to compensation.
The case was brought by 2700 women who said they suffered long-term physical and mental health problems as a result of the faulty product.
The French company PIP manufactured implants from 2001 to 2010 using cheap industrial-grade silicone not cleared for human use.
It is estimated that 40,000 women have received the breast implants worldwide, including a possible 18 women in New Zealand.
