Researcher on nitrates in babies' water

From Morning Report, 8:20 am on 24 May 2021

New research has identified a strong link between nitrates in drinking water and babies born underweight or prematurely, and suffering life-long health problems as a result.

As an analysis by the University of Otago notes, the level of nitrate deemed safe to consume in New Zealand is more than double the amount thought to cause serious problems.

University of Otago public health researcher Dr Tim Chambers is one of the authors of the analysis.

He spoke to Corin Dann.
