The wives of two men killed in a truck crash hope their long fight to clear the driver of any wrong-doing will improve the way accidents are investigated.
New coronial findings have exonerated the driver and instead found parts of the truck-trailer were cracked and unsound.
Dale Waitokia lost her husband Toby in the crash and her friend's husband, and driver of the truck, Wayne Brenssell, was also killed.
Police at the 2015 inquest blamed it on the driver braking - but the two women refused to accept that.
Waitokai told reporter Phil Pennington that she and Shona Brenssell were determined to succeed.
The NZ Police declined to say if gaps between it and other agencies have been plugged.
