A Hawke's Bay woman has expressed her anger after the region's hospital delayed her mother-in-law's surgery for weeks, while she was waiting in a hospital bed.
On Wednesday, Jakie Livingston's 90-year-old mother-in-law Jean was waiting for a hip replacement at the hospital in Hastings.
But half an hour later, staff said she had to go home.
Jakie Livingston told Hawke's Bay reporter Tom Kitchin what happened.
The Hawke's Bay District Health Board has apologised, but said postponements happen from time to time due to hospital demand.
RNZ has reported that it often struggles with capacity issues.
