Cyclists in Wellington are set to get safe cycleways throughout the city after a last-minute turnaround by city councillors.
Mayor Andy Foster proposed an amendment to fast-track temporary cycleways at a cost of $52 million extra at yesterday's meeting - but that was trumped by Councillor Tamatha Paul.
She retabled a $226 million plan rejected at an earlier stage, and the amendment was passed with 11 in favour and only three against.
Councillor Iona Pannett, who voted for the proposal, and councillor Diane Calvert, who opposed the motion, spoke to Corin Dann.
