Canterbury flooding: State of emergency still in place

A state of emergency remains is in place in Canterbury as heavy rain which has caused widespread flooding continues to fall.

The worst hit areas are Ashburton and Timaru Selwyn district and Waimakariri.

So far more than 300 homes have been evacuated.

Around 240 of these are in the Waimakariri district as banks of the Eyre River and Ashley River are expected to fail.
