Fifty-five thousand people have signed a petition calling for an end to the planned They are Us movie, which is set to star Rose Byrne as Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and focus on the days following the 2019 mosque shootings.
Backlash to the project began on Friday shortly after Byrne's casting was announced.
