Feebate scheme a 'punishment' for ute users - Judith Collins

From Morning Report, 7:31 am on 15 June 2021

Among the most ardent critics of the government's electric car incentive scheme is the National Party, who says it will immediately reverse the policy if returned to power.

Leader Judith Collins says the scheme to offer rebates when purchasing newly-imported electric and hybrid vehicles is "counterintuitive" because coal use in New Zealand is on the rise.

She is proposing a different range of measures to encourage EV uptake, including access to priority lanes, free parking, continuing the exemption from road user charges and bringing in an exemption to fringe benefit tax to encourage businesses to purchase EVs as fleet vehices.

Collins spoke to Philippa Tolley.
