Researchers have concluded the sparrow-sized South Island Robin, or Toutouwai, is among a handful of birds endemic to New Zealand that will thrive if we one day become predator-free.
They know this after completing a survey of 47 islands in the Fiordland region which found a decline in several other bird species, even though predators have been eradicated there.
