A performance about the Waikeria Prison uprising has taken out this year's national school performing arts competition Showquest.
The event replaced Stage Challenge a few years ago with the main prize won this year by South Wairarapa's Kuranui College.
Its performance featured orange jumpsuited dancers, video special effects projections of burning mattresses, and audio news clips.
It tells the story of the riot at the prison last New Year, when prisoners lit fires and destroyed a building to protest living conditions.
Year 13 student and Showquest team captain Anna Laybourn spoke to Susie Ferguson.
