Number of houses for sale hit record low in July

New Zealand's national housing stock for sale hit a record 14-year low in July.

There were just 12,684 homes on the market last month and the national average asking price hit a record high of more than $893,0000.

Asking prices in the Central North Island have spiked almost 50 percent from last year.
