Union sends prison uniforms for asbestos testing
The risk of breathing in asbestos during the Waikeria Prison riot earlier this year may never be known because Corrections rushed to clean equipment before testing it. Corrections has confirmed there is asbestos in the soon to be demolished building, but says it is satisfied that the risk of exposure to both staff and inmates would have been low. But the union for prison officers isn't convinced and says it is sending uncleaned uniforms, used during the peak of the riots, off to Australia to be tested. Charlotte Cook reports.
