A staff member from Middlemore Hospital's emergency department tested positive for Covid-19 last night, but health authorities deem it a low risk.
The worker is fully vaccinated, was wearing PPE and is asymptomatic - they've since been stood down and Public Health is currently investigating.
University of Otago epidemiologist Professor Michael Baker says how they got infected is going to be the big question.
