The Māori Party has launched a petition to change the country's official name to Aotearoa.
It also says it wants all reo Māori place names to be officially restored across the country in the next five years.
The petition will probably be closely followed by critics and supporters alike to see whether it's tapping into a groundswell of genuinely popular opinion.
