A student armed with a hunting rifle has opened fire at a university in the Russian city of Perm, killing at least eight people and wounding many others.
Panicked students leapt from first-floor windows to escape Perm State University while others built barricades out of chairs to slow the shooter, who was eventually wounded and apprehended by police.
This all unfolded on a day that President Vladimir Putin's United Russia party won an emphatic majority following a parliamentary election that opponents said was marred by large-scale fraud.
