The government is changing tack to allow Covid-19 infected people to quarantine at home, as modelling suggests cases could overwhelm managed isolation spaces.
A worst case scenario model, based on 90 percent of the population being vaccinated, says there could be 5200 cases a week, in the Auckland and Northland regions alone.
At even a fraction of those rates, quarantine hotels would be full to the brim.
