Australian expert on NZ road safety not meeting targets

After another holiday weekend of transport carnage, it turns out the Government's much-vaunted road safety strategy is failing to meet its targets.

Authorities admit work on Road to Zero needs significant ramping up if it is to upgrade highways and boost police enforcement enough to cut the toll by 40 percent by 2030.

Australian expert Eric Howard called out the lack of drink-drive testing and speed camera use in a recent report for Auckland Transport.

 He's watched from over the Tasman as this country's previous strategy, Safer Journeys, fell behind then flopped.
