A ski company has plans to expand its ski fields in Queenstown, which would see a 230-metre tunnel through conservation land.
NZSki is seeking permission from the Department of Conservation to open up back country terrain near The Remarkables mountain range.
The proposal would nearly triple the size of the ski area, from 385 hectares to 900 hectares.
NZSki's chief executive Paul Anderson spoke to Susie Ferguson.
