As the Auckland exodus begins, the gateway to Northland will still be protected by two checkpoints to ensure those entering the region have the right documents.
Police, with support from iwi, are running checkpoints on State Highway 1 at Uretiti and on State Highway 12 near Maungaturoto.
They'll be checking vaccine passes or negative Covid-19 test results, to keep the virus at bay.
