Rain eased in Christchurch overnight and council contractors are out and about this morning to assess damage.
Torrential rain caused flooding, closed roads, prompted slip warnings and wastewater overflows contaminated floodwater.
The Council's Helen Beaumont is confident they're through the worst of it but there is water across the city.
Peter Timbs Meats in Edgeware was flooded last night, for the second time this year.
David Timbs has been there since 4am on Thursday cleaning up.
