From Morning Report, 7:56 am on 17 December 2021

Several penguin chicks are homeless after torrential rain swept away their nesting boxes in Canterbury.

According to the Pohatu Bay Penguins Facebook page staff frantically rescued as many of the chicks and their nests as possible as the weather worsened.

Seven of the chicks have been given to Thomas Stracke and Kristina Schutt of Christchurch Penguin Rehab.

Stracke spoke to Guyon Espiner.
